November - A month of grounding, time to get back on track, find quiet moments.  A conversation on Quilt Art tucked neatly to the side, has surfaced.  I want a Labyrinth.  Reverse applique and beaded by machine. The raised surface of the 'Labyrinth' will allow the finger to move smoothly on the path to quiet and reflection.

November 19, 2002:  Traced out my labyrinth onto tear away stabilizer and reverse appliqued the design on to a piece of discharged fabric I had done a couple of years ago.  The applique fabric is my own hand dyed that I thought needed more work because the colours were muddy - however the piece is perfect as a background for the beads I plan to add.  All beading is to be done by machine.

November 20, 2002:  There has to be an easier way to do this.  One bead at a time is like watching paint dry and I'm too impatient to see my results to continue in this manner.  I'm also disappointed that the size of the Spring Needle I am using limits the kinds and sizes of beads that I can use.  Have to think about this.

November 21, 2002:  What if I pre-strung the beads first then couched them on.  Using monofilament thread, I strung a 12" string of assorted beads and this worked much faster once a rhythm was established.  Ran into problems when the monofilament broke and beads scattered.  Dam!  Okay, lets try a stronger thread that matches the 'Labyrinth' fabric.  Nothing on hand.  Means a trip to my favorite bead store.

November 23, 2002:  My trip was fruitful.  Not only finding thread to match, I also found a few more beads that will work in this and of course had to shop for more beads to use in Octobers' Page.  The stronger thread works wonderfully and the 'Labyrinth' is 1/2 done.  Couching is much faster when not worrying about snapping the monofilament with the needle.

November 27, 2002:  Finished the beading this afternoon.  I love the texture of this piece.  I was surprised at the weight of the piece once I took it out of the embroidery hoop.  The piece is basted and ready for quilting.  I know how I'm going to quilt the  inner portion of the Labyrinth but am still not sure how I want to do on the outside background.

November 28, 2002:  Finished November's Page.  Scanned and ready for my website.  Time to go for a quiet walk.
