March 1, 2002 March's Page: Hummm....perhaps something to do with the lessons from the Workshop on the Web. Good idea, think I'll go with that. Put some more beads on January's Page.
March 7, 2002 March's Page: Change of mind, keeping with my original thought of using the purchased books, this month's page will come from ideas gleaned from "Layers of Stitch; Contemporary Machine Embroidery" by Valeria Campbell-Harding and Maggie Grey.
Plan: 2 sheets of fusible web, painted in different colors, cut into strips and woven back together (Some paper is going to have to be removed before this will work properly). Woven piece is now laid on background, and again I leaning toward a solid black background. Fuse into place. Now using 'Romeo' water soluble stabilizer, stitch another woven grid design using a large variety of the glitzy threads I have collected over the years. Apply onto of the painted web. The remaining web should adhere the thread play. Next create a circular swirl pattern using more threads - perhaps a totally different color grouping to lay on top of the previous pattern. Add beads if necessary and perhaps loose threads in a loose tassel sort of thing. Can't wait to get started on this.
March 11, 2002 Painted 2 sheets of Fusible Web for March's Page. While waiting for the paint to dry, got the top of 'Hot, Cold...' finished. Batting is soaking in the washer. A productive day so far. Word of warning - do not try to print out Labels on White on White fabric - it doesn't work!
Got the fusible web woven onto a piece of my hand dyed fabric. I had to peel the paper off the fusible web first, and it peeled apart very easily - if it started to rip, gently lifted the web and away I went. I am so pleased with the results. Actually tickled enough to do a 'Happy Dance'. The thread play weaving is going to be done on a 1" grid so that much of the back ground shows through.
April 1, 2002 Desperately need bright, fun and flash in my life. Spring is supposed to be here and instead of warm sunny skies, we are getting a spring snow storm! Dam!!!
Started the woven grid work on March's page. Using 'Romeo' wash-away stabilizer, I'm laying out my glitzy threads in a woven pattern. I discovered I can use a Glue Stick to secure the ends and to hold them tight while I weave. Fantastic!
Got the weaving done and the thread play over top. Used Holographic Metallic threads for the thread play and I'm so pleased with the results. Washing out the Romeo was interesting. The best way, rather than soaking, was to run the water very strongly over the wash-away and the spray made it dissolve very fast. And used the blow dryer to dry the weaving, as I was so impatient to see the results. Worked great. Got the binding on and...oops no quilting. Okay, so how do I quilt this without loosing the dimensional look I've gotten? BEADING!!! I'll do some hand beading to secure the layers together. Started the beading and I'm really pleased with the peek-a-boo affect of the beads. Hope to get the beading finished tonight and March's Page is done.
April 2, 2002 Finished the Beading/quilting on March's Page. This page is now called "Puttin' On The Glitz".
