June - The best laid plans gone array!!! Still very busy at the greenhouse - only now it's the trees, shrubs and perennials. At home - the reclaiming of my own gardens, neglected in May, they scream for my attention and every waking moment is spent with green and the colours of plants in bloom. I'm in heaven 'cause there is no place like the gardens and being outdoors. It was also the start of an unseasonably warm month that lasted into July. We were also beginning to experience the beginnings of what would be a very dry summer.
November 29, 2002: Gathered up the fabrics that I had set aside back in June and Lorraine Torrence's book 'Design Essentials'. I've decided to use the Collage Curves technique. I had taken a class with Lorraine back in May of 1998 at Quilt Canada in Vancouver called "Collage Curves' and although I got the basic design transferred to a coat pattern, I never attempted to step further into the fabric selections. Not sure what is holding me back because I was very happy with the design. Perhaps it's choosing the perfect fabrics or wanting to create the fabrics. I'll ponder on this as I work through this exercise.
Played with my design and after several attempts I think I've got this page drafted. My design suggests the warmth of the sun, the pathways through my garden and the vibrant colours continually surrounding me and the joy I experience just being outside in my gardens.
Started working with my fabrics and finally had to put it away at 1:00 a.m. I'm excited by the process and the progress. I'm feeling rejuvenated but I need my sleep.
November 30, 2002: Couldn't wait to get back to the sewing machine. I'm tickled with how this is turning out. So far so good.
December 2, 2002: Finished all the design elements. Thought I'd try something new and scanned an image of the finished page to view in black and white. This helped me check the balance and I decided to change two of the colour block areas. I think it's better balanced now. Made the bias strips and got them all tacked down. Time to sew it all down!
December 4, 2002: Finished June's Journal Page "Sunshine and Joy".
